How to: Install the Windows 95 Upgrade CD-ROM from Windows 3.x.
Solution:
Follow the installation instructions that come with the Windows 95 Upgrade CD-ROM.
1) Insert the Windows 95 Upgrade CD-ROM into the CD drive.
2) Select the 'File' menu from the Windows 3.x 'Program Manager' window, and select 'Run'. (The 'Run' dialog box appears.)
3) In the 'Command line' box, type the following:
<drive>:\SETUP.EXE
(where <drive> is the letter of the CD-ROM drive).
4) Click 'OK'. (The 'Windows 95 Setup' screen appears, followed by the 'Windows 95 Setup' dialog box.)
5) Click 'Continue'. (The 'Windows 95 Setup' dialog box displays the system's status, followed by the 'Software License Agreement' dialog box.)
6) Read the agreement, and click 'Yes'. (The 'Windows 95 Setup Wizard' appears.)
7) Click 'Next'. (The 'Windows 95 Setup Wizard' displays the 'Choose Directory' options.)
8) Select the 'C:\WINDOWS' radio button, and click 'Next'. (The 'Preparing Directory' dialog box appears, displaying the amount of available space on the hard drive. Next, the 'Save System Files' dialog box appears, prompting you to back up system files.)
9) Select the 'Yes (recommended)' radio button, and click 'Next'. (The 'Saving System Files' dialog box appears, followed by the 'Setup Options' dialog box.)
10) Select the 'Typical' radio button, and click 'Next'. (The 'Product Identification' dialog box appears.)
11) Type the product identification in the 'Product Identification' text box, and click 'Next'. (The 'User Information' dialog box appears.)
12) (Optional) Type your name and company name in the 'Name' and 'Company' boxes.
13) Click 'Next'. (The 'Analyzing Your Computer' dialog box appears.)
14) Click 'Next'. (The 'Analyzing Your Computer' dialog box displays the progress of the system check for installed hardware.)
15) Click 'Next'. (The 'Get Connected' dialog box appears.)
16) Select the check box(es) of the desired communications software, and click 'Next'. (The 'Windows Components' dialog box appears.)
17) Select the 'Install the most common components' radio button, and click 'Next'. (The 'Identification' dialog box appears.)
18) Type the name for the computer and the name of the workgroup the computer will belong to on the network, if applicable, in the 'Computer Name' and 'Workgroup' boxes.
19) (Optional) Type a description for the computer in the 'Computer Description' box, and click 'Next'. (The 'Startup Disk' dialog box appears.)
20) Select the 'Yes, I want a startup disk (recommended)' radio button, and click 'Next'. (The 'Start Copying Files' dialog box appears.)
21) Click 'Next'. (The 'Insert Disk' dialog box appears.)
22) Insert a formatted floppy diskette into the floppy disk drive, and click 'OK'. (Once the computer finishes copying the Windows 95 backup files onto the floppy diskette, the 'Windows 95 Start Disk Finished' dialog box appears.)
23) Remove the floppy diskette from the floppy disk drive.
24) Click 'OK'. (The 'Preparing to copy files' status bar appears, followed by the 'Copying files...' status bar.)
25) When prompted to keep the most current version of a file, click 'Yes'. (The computer will copy files and modify configurations for the Windows 95 operating system. Once the computer finishes copying and modifying files for Windows 95, the 'Windows 95 Setup' dialog box reappears.)
26) To restart the computer and update the system configurations, click 'Finish'.
